Sod or Seed?
It's always a question - should I lay sod or plant grass seed? It all depends.
Sod is instant satisfaction - it looks great as soon as you lay it down. You are a month ahead of the guy that spread seed. But ... sod is expensive, and not super-easy to do yourself. Sod, if you look close, is typically riddled with holes and some farms cut rolls that are just not that great.
Seed, on the other hand, is much cheaper but much longer time goes by before you see results. And birds, if left uncovered, or even covered, will eat a lot of the seeds. Think I'm kidding? Watch them.
Removing the old grass will not be easy. Don't rent a sod cutter unless you want to break your back and stand behind a machine that will barely do better than you or a crew of workers with spades.
So, maybe just leave the old grass you have, kick back, drink a beer, and daydream...
